A new mini-supermarket is opening in North West Preston.

Sainsbury’s is opening its Local store in Tanterton Hall Road – in what used to be part of the car park of the Guild Merchant pub.

The supermarket chain has opening hours of 7am-11pm each day.

Around 25 jobs are being created through the opening of the store, which begins trading on Wednesday (31 May).

A spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s said: “We open on Wednesday.

“The store will pick a local charity to support and will also be involved in the Active Kids programme, helping local schools and organisations to keep kids fit and active.”

The store faced objections from nearby residents saying they felt nearby independent shops would be affected – but the plan for the store were approved, and its alcohol licence.
