There’s going to be Panic on the Streets of Preston as hundreds of Prestonians are invited to dance in the style of Morrissey.

Open flowing shirts and gladioli will be provided for the gloomy city dwellers to join the artistic performance.

The Morrissey Dancers is the brainchild of Derelict Theatre who are holding rehearsals for budding dancers – and you don’t need any experience, other than being able to raise your knees to The Smiths without the aid of a couple of pints.

Charlote Berry from the theatre group said: “According to a recent article in The Independent then Preston is the fourth unhappiest place to live in the UK.

“We are keen to combine Morrisey’s northern gloom with uplifting Morris Dancing, bringing the community together to celebrate our northern city.”

During the dancing on Saturday 1 July the dancers are to invade the Flag market and several other locations dressed as Morrisey and dancing to The Smiths.

How to take part

Rehearsals are on Tuesday 20 June (7pm-8.30pm), Tuesday 27 June (7pm-8.30pm) and Wednesday 28 June (7-8.30pm)

Email charlotte@derelictlive.org stating which rehearsal you’ll be attending.

A professional Morris Dancer leads each rehearsal and refreshments are provided.

The Media Factory in Kirkham Street on the University of Central Lancashire campus is the venue and there’s free parking after 6pm in Kirkham Street.
