Man holds knife to chest of victim in distressing robbery attempt

Preston Police have launched an investigation following an attempted knifepoint robbery in Preston.

The victim, 20, was walking in Warwick Street at 9.45pm on May 3 when he was approached by another male.

The offender held a knife to the victim’s chest and demanded his wallet but was disturbed by sirens from passing emergency services in Moor Lane.

The suspect made off from the scene towards North Street, with the victim, a student at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), reporting the offence to security staff.

The offender is described as white, 5ft 6in tall of slim build. He was wearing a black hoody with a white Nike tick. The offender also had a hat pulled down to cover his face and wore black tracksuit pants and blue Nike Huarache trainers.

Det Con Lewis Haigh, of Preston CID, said: “This was a distressing incident which has left the victim shaken and upset.

“We want to find the person responsible and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“If you recognise the offender described please contact us.

“I would also urge students and residents in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”
