A crash has closed the M55 near Preston with five vehicles involved.
Two lorries are thought to be involved in the crash along with two cars and a van.
First Aid has been administered to two people at the scene with a third person cut from a car.
The M55 is shut near junction 3 westbound towards Blackpool after the crash shortly before 9am on Tuesday (2 May).
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said they remained at the scene.
Major delays are being experienced following the crash between Junction 1 and 3 and is causing knock-on traffic to surrounding roads.
Preston New Road is also shut by Lancashire Police due to an anti-fracking protest.
Highways England state: “Road users are advised to follow the Solid Circle symbol led diversion. Exit the M55 westbound at J1 taking the first exit onto the A6 southbound. At the junction with the A6/A5085 turn right onto the A5085 westbound. At the junction with the A5085/A583 take the A583 westbound towards Kirkham. At the junction with the A583/A585 (roundabout) follow the A585 northbound. Continue to the M55 to re-join at J3
“Road users are advised to allow extra time to complete their journey plans or to consider an alternative route.”
The M55 is expected to remain closed westbound until 5pm on Tuesday.
Preston Bus is warning services using Black Bull Lane and Sharoe Green Lane may experience delays, as well as New Hall Lane.
