Van fire causes early morning problems on the M6

A van fire on the M6 caused minor problems this morning (April 21).

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and Lancashire Police attended the scene at approximately 5am.

Two appliances, from Fulwood and Preston, attended the scene where a Ford Escort van had been destroyed by the fire.

One lane of the M6 southbound at junction 32 was closed for around 30 minutes while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Hose-reel jets were used to handle the fire.

The driver was alerted to the problem by a passing HGV. The fire is believed to have started accidentally and the driver was able to escape the vehicle quickly.

All lanes on the M6 affected by the incident have now reopened.
