A Preston retail park is hosting a shopping event for those with dementia.
AdvertisementDeepdale Shopping Park is seeing stores including M&S, Next, Hobbycraft and Wilko having a Dementia Friend manning the tills.
Additional trained staff will be on hand around the stores to help those visiting with dementia and music and tannoy announcements will have a reduced volume throughout the day.
The dementia friendly event is on Monday (3 April) from 9.30am to 11.30am.

Deputy centre manager for Deepdale Catherine Holmes said: “We are delighted to be hosting our first dementia friendly shopping event on Monday 3 April. Our staff, security, facilities management and in store teams have all undergone training to become Dementia Friends to help create a safe and supportive environment for those affected by dementia.
“This event is the first in a series to help support local people with dementia and is part of our investment in the local community to create a place that people prefer.”

Representatives from Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Society are also going to be in the stores to offer help and support, and raise money for the two charities.
