Police have appealed for witnesses to a fatal crash on the outskirts of Preston during Friday afternoon.

Around 3.25pm on Friday (11 March) a motorcyclist went to overtake a flat back lorry in Cumeragh Lane.

As the bike came round the side of the lorry it collided with a white Ford Transit van which the lorry had allowed to turn.

The rider lost control of the bike and the 51-year-old man from Longridge suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeat Claire Pearson from the road policing team said: “A man unfortunately died as a result of this tragic incident and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly sad and difficult time.

“If you saw anything during or in the lead up to this collision, please make contact with us as it will no doubt assist us with our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident reference 861 of March 10th.
