North West Motorway Police are expecting significant delays on the M6 this evening.

Two lanes had to be closed near Preston from around 4.30pm for emergency repairs.

The closure was between J32 for Preston and J33 for Lancaster on the M6 northbound and was due to a severe pothole on the road.

The stretch of motorway was closed until around 5.20pm for safety reasons despite the busy time of day. This was due to the severity of the pothole.

All lanes are now open but the closure has caused tailbacks adding approximately ten minutes to your usual journey time. Delays are currently easing.
