A major rural road on the outskirts of Preston has been shut due to a fatal crash.

Cumeragh Lane is closed at its junction with Whittingham Lane and Barbiner Lane, Back Lane and Camforth Hall Lane.

Update: Police now appealing for witnesses to fatal crash

A motorbike and car have collided. The road is closed in both directions.

An air ambulance is understood to have been called.

A police spokesman said: “We were called around 3.25pm today by the Ambulance Service following reports of a collision in Whittingham.

“A car and motorbike had collided at the junction of Back Lane and Cumeragh Lane.

“Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist, a man, was later pronounced dead at the scene.

“The road is currently closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

Cumeragh Lane is where United Utilities are working to repair a major burst pipe which is causing water supply problems to the PR2 and PR3 postcode areas. The incident is not linked to the water pipe repair work.
