Elderly woman in hospital after being hit by Mercedes in Preston

A pensioner is in hospital after being struck by a car during a crash in Ashton-on-Ribble.

The woman, aged 78, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Preston Police closed Watery Lane near its junction with Port Way at 6.25pm on Friday (10 March).

A police spokesman confirmed the woman had been hit by a Mercedes E350 as it overtook a slow-moving motorhome, and she and a man were in the carriageway.

She received a number of fractures, a punctured lung and cuts to her face.

Sergeant Steve Hardman from the Road Policing Unit said: “We need anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward and speak to us.

“This woman has been left with a number of serious injuries and so it’s important we ascertain exactly what happened from eye witnesses who were there at the time.”
