It will officially launch on Monday 27 February as a supported dog walking service operating Monday – Friday, with a supported dog grooming service.

The business, located at 72 Longbrook Avenue, Bamber Bridge, aims to improve the welfare of dogs in the local area by offering dog walking and grooming services at an affordable price.

People who use the service will be supported by an experienced carer to walk the resident Barks and Recreation dogs, or in the community as part of their dog walking service, providing regular exercise to help combat health issues such as obesity and diabetes, and help improve mental wellbeing.

Barks and Recreation will risk assess the matching of both the people who use the service and the dogs to ensure suitability of the pairs, such as pairing less confident people with dogs who won’t pull on the lead and show no aggressive behaviour.

Dog walks will take place in local parks and green areas where possible, which can help promote the natural therapeutic qualities of spending time with animals.

The service will also educate people around dog welfare, and there are plans in the making to possibly arrange community litter picks in local areas that are popular with dog owners.

Stephen Brown, founder of Barks & Recreation, said: “The service is run by myself, Stephen Brown, a dog lover and qualified dog groomer with over 9 years experience in health and social care.

“Our dog services goes beyond what a normal dog service do. We’re happy to place dirty towels in the laundry post-walk, open or close curtains, leave a radio on for the dog – whatever is required within the time period.

“We’re also launching a specialist older person and physical disability service that looks to tackle social isolation and the issues older people face looking after their dogs”.

You can contact Barks and Recreation online or call them on 01772 381062.
