The latest stage of revamp work at Preston Bus Station begins from Monday (27 February).
AdvertisementA subway between the grade-II listed building and Tithebarn Street, outside the St John’s Shopping Centre, is being shut for a week.
The closure comes into force from 10am on the Monday and Lancashire County Council recommends the bus station should be accessed using gates 10 and 39.
Anyone needing to relieve themselves while waiting for the bus will also need to use the staff toilets on Monday (27 February) as the main toilets are closed due to upgrades to the building’s electrical system.
A spokesperson for the county council said: “We apologise for any inconvenience during this essential work and ask people to bear with us while it’s carried out. We’re planning to reopen the subway as soon as we can.”
Work on the Bus Station has seen new barriers installed on the top of the car park roof after a number of deaths in recent years.
The concrete is also being re-done and millions of pounds ploughed into building Preston Youth Zone on the western apron of the building.
