Woman cut free from wreckage after crash near Preston

A main road on between Preston and Southport was blocked after a car crash.

Fire crews from Tarleton and Southport attended the crash at the junction of Southport New Road and Blackgate Lane on the A556 heading towards Preston.

The driver, a female, was cut from the car and treated by paramedics at the scene.

The road was closed for two hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage.

The incident took place just after 5.30am on Sunday (29 January).

Lancashire Police have been warning drivers to take care due to icy conditions on Sunday morning.

Due to low temperatures ice on the roads is expected until lunchtime on Sunday.
