A pensioner is in hospital after a collision near a Preston supermarket.

Rush hour commuters ran to help the elderly man after the incident near Booths in Longton.

Police closed Liverpool Road for around an hour while paramedics took the man involved to Royal Preston Hospital.

An eyewitness said: “I saw the guy’s shopping rolling around on the pavement.

“Cars in-front of me had pulled onto the pavement and people ran out to help him. I called 999.

“He wasn’t moving at all. I saw the driver of the car (that collided with him) jump out and run to him.

“The guy was in the road. The window of the car involved had its front left passenger window shattered.”

The incident took place around 5.30pm on Friday (2 December).
