HMV has announced that their Fishergate store will close on January 25th.
AdvertisementThe retailer will move to a smaller unit in St George’s Centre in Spring 2017.
There is currently a closing down sale on at the store with signs up saying “everything must go.”
Despite the plans and falling sales, HMV appears to have enjoyed a successful 2016 on the back of a surge in physical music sales and the increased popularity of vinyl. In January 2015, they overtook Amazon to reclaim the title as the largest physical music retailer in the UK.
However, Hilco, who restructured the company in 2013 after they went into administration, announced the closure of their Brighton store this month with no replacement store lined up.
The Preston store was one of 132 stores saved when Hilco took over the struggling music and DVD retailer in 2013. The company have also reopened stores in Ireland after they had all been closed previously.
There is currently no official date for the opening of HMV in St George’s Centre.
