The SPAR store in Fulwood has opened in what was Co-Op
A 24-hour shop at a Fulwood garage has now opened after a refit.
SPAR has replaced Co-Op at the petrol station in Garstang Road.
The shop closed for a week to have its insides gutted and replaced with a new layout and branding for the convenience chain.
Operators Rontec applied for and successfully won a 24-hour licence and opening times for the shop, despite objections from nearby residents.
At a licensing sub-committee hearing at Preston City Council councillors voted through the change in licence for the shop.
A statement at the hearing from Ronteic said: “We are a very experienced operator, especially with 24hour sites. We will operate through a night pay window, with at least two staff working.
“Any problems we would immediately bring to the police’s attention, we want a continuing relationship with neighbours, and regarding underage alcohol sales, we will ask for identification of any customer who looks under the age of 25.”
The Co-Op had been closing at 11pm each night.
