Kenny Baker
Preston is in mourning following the news that Kenny Baker passed away, aged 81.
Baker, best known for playing R2-D2 in the Star Wars films, lived in Ashton-on-Ribble for decades and was regularly seen around the city.
Prestonians have been paying tribute to the man who so many seem to have some fond memories of in one way or another.
Helen Murray said: “I used to serve him in the Black Bull on Garstang Road all the time. Lovely bloke.”#
Iain Gudgeon said: “I have many happy memories of Kenny. RIP dude. Thank you for your kindness, the laughs and the friendship you showed so many people. You will be sadly missed. May the force be with you, always.”
Dave Punkage said: “Aye, met him at Manchester Comic Con, he was taking signings next to Warwick Davis so got a DVD signed by Warwick and then went to Kenny, he was a lovely fella, signed my photo had a good chat with him and had a photo with him, he had so much time for his fans and a genuinely nice bloke, so sad.”
Maureen Chadwick said: “Sad to hear of the passing of Kenny Baker, condolences to his close family and friends. Thank you for the years of pleasure you brought to so many peoples lives. Rest in peace.”
