A man has been arrested after a a pedestrian died following a collision in Whitestake.
Pope Lane was closed for six hours on Bank Holiday Monday morning.
The incident at 12.50am saw a silver Toyota Avensis approach a property in Pope Lane close to the junction with Green Lane.
A 44-year-old taxi driver was waiting to collect his fare when a red Peugeot 106 neared his car.
South Ribble Police say as the Peugeot came closer to the Toyota it mounted a grass verge and collided with a pedestrian,
The Peugeot continued and crashed into a tree before coming to a stop on its side.
The pedestrian, a 35-year-old man from Bamber Bridge, suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt Tracey Ward, of the Lancashire Police Roads Policing Team, said: “These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts remain with this man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“We are appealing for information and would ask anyone who can help to come forward and contact police.
“If you were in the Pope Lane area and witnessed the incident or saw either vehicle prior to the collision, please contact us.”

A 32-year-old man from Preston was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink-driving. He is currently in custody.
