Archery and table tennis are two of the sports clubs opening their doors

Prestonian’s wanting to get involved with sport are being offered taster sessions in everything from basketball to table tennis.

Following Team GB’s success in the Olympic Games in Rio the I am Team GB campaign began on Saturday (27 August) and in Preston runs until Sunday 11 September.

Preston sports clubs have joined together to offer a chance to try different sports for free.

The Sports Fest has all different types of sports covered as Preston City Council work with local clubs to organise it.

Cabinet member for culture and leisure councillor Peter Kelly said: “The amazing efforts of our British athletes at the Olympics inspired the nation. Being able to try sports for free and getting the people of Preston active is a fantastic opportunity and a big thank you goes to all the clubs involved.”

Saturday 27 August
Join Broughton Club for free tennis taster sessions from 4.00pm – 6.00pm at Broughton Club, Whittingham Lane, Preston. The sessions are for all ages and for more information email broughtontennis@gmail.com

Samlesbury Longbow Archers are based at Preston Grasshoppers’ Rugby Union Club and are offering free taster longbow sessions from 9.30am – 12.30pm. To attend this session you must pre book by emailing alanacowie33@hotmail.co.uk The sessions are for children aged 11 years and above.

Sunday 28 August
Join Broughton Club for free tennis and Petanque taster sessions from 4.00pm – 6.00pm at Broughton Club, Whittingham Lane, Preston. The sessions are for all ages and for more information or to book your session please email broughtontennis@gmail.com

Red Rose Sports Club is hold multi sports taster sessions for children 11 years and above from 10.30am – 1.30pm on Moor Park Tennis Courts. For more information email siraznatha@live.com

Tuesday 30 August
Join Preston Harriers running fitness club on Monday evening from 6.15pm – 7.30pm. These sessions are for adults 18 years and above and the group meet in Moor Park car park. For more information call Sue on 07776445553.

West View Climbing Centre are offering anyone aged 5 years and above free taster sessions from 3.00pm – 4.00pm. To attend you must pre book your session by calling 01772 796788 and quote Preston Sports Fest.

Wednesday 31 August
Join Preston Harriers running club on Tuesday evening from 6.45pm – 8.00pm at UCLAN Sports Arena. These sessions are for adults 18 years and above and for more information or any questions visit Preston Harriers Facebook page.

Ashton Methodist Table Tennis Club are offering taster sessions from 7.00pm – 9.00pm at Ashton Methodist Community Centre. All ages are welcome, if you are under 18 years of age you must be accompanied by an adult. You must pre book this session by emailing info@deliverednw.com or call Mike on 07928199694.

Thursday 1 September
Join Garstang Hockey Club from 6.00pm – 7.00pm at UCLAN Sports Arena for Hockey taster sessions. You must be 7 years and above and for more information email josephinerice@hotmail.com

Tri Preston is a triathlon club and is meeting at Bensons for Beds (Preston Docks) at 6.45pm for a running session. You must 16 years and above and for more information and to register for the session please visit Tri Preston’s website.
