A man had just dropped his children off when his car burst into flames.
AdvertisementFirefighters were scrambled to St Cuthbert’s Road in Fishwick on Tuesday afternoon.
They arrived to find the silver Vauxhall Zafira in a ball of fire.
The driver’s mother, who asked not to be named, said: “My son’s lost a lot of personal stuff and expensive fishing gear too.
“He had dropped the children off earlier and decided to go fishing but his quiet afternoon on the riverbank disappeared.
“Smoke started coming out of the car when he was in St George’s Road so he pulled into a side street.
“I’m just happy the kids were dropped off and no one was hurt, just his pride and joy. They can be replaced but family can’t be.”
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to a car fire at 5.31pm.
They said the fire caused severe damage to the car and caused heat and smoke damage to the front door of one nearby house and the window and drain pipe of another.
Crews spent about 40 minutes putting out the car fire.
It is not known at this stage how the fire started.
