Friargate saw surface water flooding during a recent downpour in Preston

Preston is braced for a wet and windy start to the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Met Office is warning of the risk of surface water flooding during a nine hour deluge.

The yellow warning of rain is in place for Preston and Lancashire from just after midnight on Sunday (28 August) through to 9am the same day.

The chief forecaster is warning as much as 30-40mm of rain could fall within a few hours.

A statement from the Met Office says: “Rain will become persistent and locally heavy during Saturday night, clearing eastwards early on Sunday morning.

“Please be aware of the risk of surface water flooding, which could cause local disruption to transport and outdoor activities.”
