A supermarket giant faces queries from nearby homeowners as it applies to sell alcohol in Ingol.
AdvertisementSainsbury’s are applying to build a small store on the Guild Merchant pub’s car park in Tag Lane.
An application states they want to sell alcohol from 7am to 11pm every day, and the Sainsbury’s store itself woudl be open 24-7.
A campaign was launched by residents in the area and nearby shop owners.
Nearly 100 letters have been received by Preston City Council urging it not to grant the alcohol licence.
One letter writer says there is a problem with drug taking in the area – and groups of teenagers hanging around on street corners.
Another points to high levels of anti-social behaviour in the Ingol and Tanterton area, which the writer says will increase with the opening of an off licence.
A spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s said: “We operate a Think 25 policy, where all our staff are trained to not serve alcohol to anyone under the age of 25, or to anyone who appears to be buying for someone under that age.”
Councillors on the city council’s licensing sub-committee are due to meet on Wednesday 10 August from 11am to discuss the application.
