More than 50mm of rain is possible in a few hours from Tuesday (June 7) afternoon.

The yellow weather warning is in force from 2pm to 9pm as Preston continues to swelter with temperatures reaching 28 degrees Celsius during Monday lunchtime.

The Met Office warning states: “Heavy, thundery showers will break out on Tuesday afternoon over parts of northern England and Scotland. These will be slow moving, and whilst many places will miss the worst, they will bring some localised torrential downpours. The public should be aware of the possibility of surface water flooding and travel disruption.”
