A Penwortham man has been arrested after a police helicopter was targeted with a laser pen.

NPAS Warton was flying over the area after helping Preston Police trace a man wanted for assault.

As they flew back to their base near Preston they had the green light shine into their cockpit.

A short piece of video footage shows the blinding impact it can have.

NPAS Warton tweeted: “It’s dangerous, stupid and we will arrest.”

The police helicopter is due to stop operating in August, as cover for the Preston area is to be provided by Yorkshire and Manchester crews.
