Lisa Derbyshire, 21, was cut free from the car by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

She was on her way to a teaching placement in Broughton.

Her Dad, Andy Derbyshire, from Blackburn, said: “As the father of the girl involved in the incident I would like to thank all those who chose to stop and help. They helped her by placing their vehicles in front of her car to give her protection from other vehicles.

“They calmed her down until the emergency services arrived and who were great.

“I will probably never meet you to say thanks but thank you. There are some very caring people in this world. Thank you so much.”

The trainee English teacher is currently recovering at home, after receiving bruising and a fractured heel in the collision.

She is due to begin a full-time teaching position in Nelson in September.
