An ancient story is set to brought before modern audiences in Preston.

The Oddity is a contemporary exploration of The Odyssey and is based around a girl called Tilly. She is described as a girl lost between ancient fiction and modern reality.

This theatre show is described as a dark and humorous tale that turns the Greek myth on its head by telling the story from a female perspective.

Creator Rose van Leyenhorst has been working on the piece since 2013 with her company Out of Nowhere Theatre.

“The Oddity was not created conventionally,” says Rose. “We tested the script and plot ideas in the rehearsal room with co-director Chris Hill and a cast of actors.

“It has been a continuous work-in-progress, with the script as a starting point rather than an endgame.”

This tour has been made possible by funding from Arts Council England and backers of a Kickstarter campaign.

The show is on June 1 at the New Continental with doors at 8pm. Tickets are £8 or £6 for concessions.
