Pointing its barrel at passing traffic for years there was a short trip to be made for an iconic Preston landmark.
The Centurion Tank at the Flensburg Way roundabout points in the direction of the city, but roadworks saw it moved from its current resting place.
Part of the work on the ‘Tank roundabout’ as the A582 is made into a dual carriageway, meant the Centurion needed to move position.
A large crane hoisted the tank during Monday (May 23) evening to a new spot on a mound 20m back from the current roundabout.
It’s needed to move to allow additional lanes to be added in each direction.

The work is being carried out as part of the City Deal, a major investment in new roads and homes across the city.
City Deal project manager Phill Wilson said: “As with the rest of the project, we’ve done our best to move this well-loved landmark with the minimum of disruption to the public.
“It’s not every day you have to move a Centurion tank but I’m pleased to say that everything went very smoothly last night and the tank has taken up its new position, from where it should overlook the new and improved roundabout for many years to come.”
