Friends gathered on Saturday to remember Chris Curwen, who played for UCLan FC during his time at university before he died in 2010 at the age of 23.

This was the fourth year in a row that the tournament has been held and each year it has raised money for charity.

The final figure raised from this year’s tournament is yet to be announced but organisers are hoping to beat last year’s total which was just over £1000.

The money raised goes to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust which was chosen by Chris’ mum Karen Bradley.

The tournament took place at Myerscough College, where Chris attended and featured a UCLan Old

Boys XI, the current UCLan football team and Wyre Villa – which was Chris’ local team.

Chris’ mum Karen Bradley said: “It’s been a spectacular turnout on behalf of UCLan and Wyre Villa to remember Chris and that’s what it’s all about.

“It’s good for them to get together as a reunion but for us, it’s also a very emotional time as well because it brings make memories but it’s nice that everyone is still happy to come together to spend this special day. One of the lads has even come from Australia!

“They’ve all grown up and got married, moved to different parts of the country and the world so he must have really meant something to the lads for them to come back to Lancashire and remember him on this special day.

“It means a great deal to us as his family that everyone can come together and donate whatever they can afford.”
