Staff at the department store cafe where a crash victim used to work have raised £1,000 towards her funeral.
AdvertisementRachel Marie Murphy, 23, died in the Brockholes Brow crash and her friends at Debenhams in Fishergate were determined to see she gets a fitting send off.
Katie Taylor and her colleagues rallied together to hold a ‘Wear red for Rachel’ weekend during the Bank Holiday in recognition of Rachel’s love for Liverpool FC.
She said: “The money raised will be given to Rachel’s family to help with the funeral costs. Rachel was a wonderful friend and employee of the month in September.
“She will be very sadly missed by us all. It’s been a team decision to hold and organise this event for Rachel.
“Our customers have been extremely generous and supportive towards us all and we are all very grateful.”
Donations were given with staff doing henna tattoos, selling pick and mix and baking cakes.
Rachel died on Wednesday 20 April after being struck by a car, it is understood she pushed clear a 15-year-old girl who has now recovered with minor injuries.
17-year-old Shelby Maher also died following the collision, she was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where she passed away from her injuries.
The family and friends of Rachel have been sent a full personalised kit by Liverpool FC for her funeral.
