Walton Summit crash: M61 northbound reopened where it meets M6

The approach to Junction 9 of the M61

A motorway junction near Preston was closed due to a serious collision involving a motorcyclist.

Emergency services have been called to Walton Summit where the M61 meets the M6.

North West Ambulance Service and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews to the scene. The fire service said a motorcyle and a car had collided.

A spokesman confirmed a crew from Bamber Bridge made the scene safe and were there for around 45 minutes.

The northbound carriageway at Junction 9 of the M61, where it meets the M6, had been closed since 11.25am on Saturday (April 30).

Accident investigators are on the scene andĀ drivers wereĀ diverted off onto the M65 andĀ onto the M6 northbound at Junction 29. The motorway reopened around 1.30pm.

North West Motorway Police tweeted the closure was in place so ambulance staff can work safely in the carriageway. They confirmed a motorcyclist had been taken to Royal Preston Hospital.
