A junction of the M6 near Preston is to be closed all day for resurfacing work.

Junction 31A heading northbound is to be shut while Highways England repair the surface following a diesel spill and six-vehicle crash. One lane in the northbound section between 31 and 31A is also to remain closed.

One motorist was taken to hospital by air ambulance and others by the North West Ambulance Service after the incident at around 7.30pm on Sunday (April 24).

Motorists reported being stuck for hours on the M6 as delays stretched back to Junction 29.

Police closed the motorway for around five hours while a clean up operation took place.
