Six vehicles have been involved in a major crash on the M6 near Preston.
AdvertisementThe northbound carriageway at Junction 31 has been closed since 7.20pm.
On Monday (April 25) the M6 at Junction 31A the exit slip road is to be closed throughout the day.
Emergency services were called out to a number of incidents on the M6 in the space of 15 minutes.
A diesel spillage is understood to have taken place between Junction 31 and 32, and a car also hit the central reservation in the same stretch of motorway.
One person has been taken to hospital by the North West Air Ambulance and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Bamber Bridge attended a collision involving six vehicles.
A spokeswoman from the fire service said: “There were multiple casualties. One casualty was transferred to hospital via air ambulance and the others by road ambulance.
“Slightly earlier we were also called to a collision where a car had his the central reservation and we moved the vehicle to the hard shoulder. A female casualty was not in the vehicle when we arrived.”
