A view of the reservoirs in Grimsargh
A multi-million pound scheme to secure the future of three former reservoirs as a nature reserve has been resubmitted.
United Utilities wants to build 12 homes in Preston Road, Grimsargh, as part of the Grimsargh Wetlands project.
Its original proposals were rejected by Preston City Council in Autumn last year.
Grimsargh Parish Council has launched a campaign to urge homeowners in the village to support the new proposals.
A spokesman for the parish council said: “If approved this would see the site protected in perpetuity and developed further as a nature reserve.
“The proposal includes a small development of 12 houses fronting Preston Road and from the proceeds of that a substantial dowry would be given to the Parish Council to pay towards immediate maintenance work and ongoing upkeep.”
The water firm has also implied it is appealing the original decision made by the city council’s planning committee to the planning inspector.
Bird watchers have reported the wetlands have been seeing increased numbers of migrating birds, with more than 550 curlews spotted this Spring.
You can see the full plans for the Wetlands on the city council website.
