Preston’s university is preparing to take over a city centre shop to provide events to the public.
AdvertisementThe University of Central Lancashire has rented a unit on the Lune Street side of the St George’s Shopping Centre.
Set to open by the end of March the former Britannia Building Society premises is to host exhibitions, advice events and science clubs.
UCLan head of communications and engagement Dr Jo Heaton-Marriott said: “UCLan is committed to developing strong links and partnerships with the local community and our ‘In the City’ shop will be a melting pot for new ideas and initiatives which can really drive our city forward.
“The new facility will be open-access and most sessions will be run free of charge.”
Events planned include a first aid workshop provided by UCLan’s school of nursing, a Saturday morning science club run by young scientists and a live literature project.
