A gold medal winning athlete is to be the guest speaker at this year’s Preston Sports Awards.
AdvertisementCraig Heap, who won gold in gymnastics at the 1988 and 2002 Commonwealth games.
The event, which takes place at the Guild Hall, is a celebration of sporting teams, individuals and those who help make sports events happen in Preston.
Cabinet member for culture and leisure, councillor Veronica Afrin, said: “Craig is the perfect choice to be our guest speaker. His sporting story will motivate our award nominees and winners to continue with their dedication to sport in Preston.
“As I attend the awards ceremony every year, it’s pleasing to see how they have grown. The event is always a huge success and has become a major highlight in the Preston sporting calendar.”
Nominations for the Sports Awards have now closed with 17 awards to be handed out during the event on Friday 11 March.

Sports teams in the city are being encouraged to send in their ‘selfie’ videos.
These will create a video montage on the awards night. How to submit a video is available on the council website.
