A flood alert has been issued covering part of the River Ribble near Preston.

Heavy rain and sleet is forecast throughout Monday night, with the Met Office warning there could be isolated snow showers.

The Environment Agency says it is monitoring the level of the Ribble and the River Darwen as they are due to rise through to lunchtime on Tuesday.

The area covered by the flood alert, the lowest level of warning, is the Ribble at Samlesbury, and the Darwen at Walton-le-Dale and Higher Walton.
