Preston Police have moved to quash rumours the English Defence League will be ‘marching’ through Preston.

The far-right group is due to demonstrate on Saturday 20 February in the city.

A Facebook group used to promote the event states “it will be a march, don’t believe that the papers are printing about a static demo.”

However, a spokesman for Preston Police said: “There isn’t a march. They will simply move from wherever the agreed must point is to the protest site.”

He said police were continuing to speak to EDL leaders about where this static protest would be and further information relating to the demonstration.
