Footage showing the damage caused to a section of the Guild Wheel has been released.

Keen Preston cyclist Stephen Melling has been out on his bike during Saturday morning around the riverside section of the cycle route.

Running 21-miles around Preston the popular route has become blocked by debris from the Boxing Day floods.

Stephen makes his way over tyres, tree trunks and dead livestock as he makes his way along the River Ribble.

He said said: “The path is completely ruined and the livestock needs removing before disease breaks out.

“It was a sad ride, let me say.”

Headcam footage gives an idea of just how powerful the Ribble was when it reached record recorded levels.

Preston City Council said it may take weeks to repair the damage caused as the Ribble burst its banks.
