Two University of Central Lancashire honorary fellows have been recognised in the 2016 New Year’s Honours List.
AdvertisementLady Milena Grenfell-Baines has been awarded an MBE while Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire Peter Mileham has been awarded an OBE.
Lady Grenfell-Baines became an honorary fellow in 2012 and has been acknowledged for her services to music through her work as a fundraiser and patron for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra over 40 years.
She was given the Freedom of Preston last year and has lent her support to the £200m campus masterplan.
She said: ““It was a huge surprise and I had to keep quiet about it for some time.
“I’ve always encouraged people to come along to classical concerts and we particularly need a younger audience to keep classical music going.”
Meanwhile Peter Mileham been an honorary fellow in 2009 and was the High Sheriff of Lancashire in 2011/12.
He is an ambassador for Royal Preston Hospital cancer charity Rosemere Foundation and a Citizens in Policing ambassador for Lancashire Police.
Professor Mike Thomas, vice-chancellor at UCLan, said: “Both Lady Milena and Peter Mileham have made a significant contribution to the local community in a variety of ways.
“To be recognised in the 2016 New Year’s Honours List is a fantastic accolade and something they should be very proud of.”
