Preston and Lancashire is expected to see some ice forming on roads and pavements as temperatures drop in the wake of Storm Gertrude.

The chief forecaster states: “A cold front will clear from northern England, the north Midlands and north Wales during Friday evening, followed by clearing skies and air cold enough to allow surfaces to freeze. In addition, scattered showers of rain, sleet and hill snow will may cause some wash-off of any road treatments already applied.

“The chance of disruption will gradually diminish on Saturday morning as temperatures start to rise, although with wintry showers likely to continue.”
