Poetry legend Dr John Cooper Clarke to play Preston Charter Theatre

One of Britain’s most influential modern performance poets is coming to Preston.

Dr John Cooper Clarke, a comedian, cultural commentator and poet, will play the Charter Theatre at Preston Guild Hall in February.

Clarke is a major figure in the punk scene and has toured with The Sex Pistols, The Clash and Buzzcocks.

His collection Ten Years In An Open Necked Shirt was one of the bestselling poetry books of the 1980s.

Cooper Clarke recently popped up on our television screens working with the National Trust on their advertising campaign for #lovethecoast.

He also rose to prominence as his poem Evidently Chickentown was used as an ending in American drama The Sopranos.

In July 2013 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Salford.

He plays on Monday 8 February. Tickets are £21.50 and available from the Preston Guild Hall website.
