Neil Jameson will host an event at UCLan
A leading national campaigner for social change will host an event at the University of Central Lancashire today.
Neil Jameson, from Citizens UK, was recently awarded a CBE in the New Year’s honours list for his service to local communities.
Cllr Matthew Brown, cabinet member for social justice, inclusion and policy, said: “This is an important event for Preston.
“Neil is a high profile individual with a national track record of introducing social change.
“His work at Citizens UK in and around London has earned him the recent honour of a CBE, so we are lucky that he has taken the time from his busy schedule to join us here in Preston.
“Social change is about local people improving local communities by working together for the benefit of everyone.
“Introducing the living wage, seeking caps on payday lenders, improving social care, encouraging the growth of the local economy through co-operatives and employee owned companies are successful examples of the work of Citizens UK.
“Indeed, many successful initiatives are flourishing in London, as well as other neighbourhoods due to the work of Neil and his team at Citizens UK.
“We very much look forward to welcoming Neil to Preston and listening to what he has to say.
“There is certainly much to learn, but also much to build on already in Preston, with our programme of fairness and social justice.”
