Blackpool Road was closed near the junction with Ribbleton Lane in Preston due to a serious collision.
A push bike rider was involved in an incident with a car at around 12.30pm on Sunday.
A female cyclist, a member of Chorley Cycling Club, was taken to hospital but Preston Police said her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said police were directing traffic down Ribbleton Avenue and St Gregorys Road as a diversion, although this was lifted around 3pm.
A fellow cyclist who saw the incident said the woman who was hurt was a ‘competent cyclist’.
Phil Waterhouse, 43, from Chorley, said: “The turned in front of us, we were travelling at around 15mph. The driver didn’t look, didn’t see us and we had a collision.
“The cyclist she had no earphones in, is a very competent cyclist and is training for the British Ladies Team.
“Thanks to all the ambulance, police and locals that made this terrible incident just a little bit easier on us all. Local lad out with his wife and child was brilliant, Sam I think was his name, he came and just got involved so a massive thank you from Chorley Cycling club.
“A big thanks to Machine Mart too who were helpful in storing the damaged bike to be collected sometime soon.”
Traffic on Sunday afternoon is busy as many shoppers make their way to and from the Deepdale Shopping Park.
