A man has been charged after a gun was pointed at police officers in Ribbleton.

Ashley Gerrard, 29, of Bruce Street, St Helens, is charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to resist lawful arrest.

It follows an incident in Ribbleton Avenue on Tuesday morning.

Officers stopped a Ford Focus in Ribbleton after reports of a domestic assault in Mill Lane, Coppull where a gun was pointed at a woman.

No weapon was discharged during either incident and no-one was injured.

Gerrard is due to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday afternoon.
