A 50-year-old man died from suspected stab wounds in Royal Preston Hospital on Sunday morning.

Police have launched a murder investigation after what they say was an altercation in Fishwick around 6am on Sunday.

Muslims had assembled at Great Townley Street, just yards from where Preston Police were carrying out a murder investigation.

One mosque leader, who asked not to be named, said: “We’re deeply saddened by what has happened.

“This is a peaceful neighbourhood. Our thoughts are with the family at this time.”

The procession did not turn on music or take part in any chanting until it turned into Skeffington Road.
