Detectives on the scene in Lowthian Street

A man has been taken to Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing in Preston city centre.

Preston Police have closed off both ends of Lowthian Street from around 5pm on Monday.

Residents on the road have been told they cannot return to their properties while the police search the scene.

Lowthian Street, which joins Orchard Street by the Black Horse and Market Tavern pubs, is taped off and a number of police vehicles including a forensics van are on the scene.

A number of people from the Preston area have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman confirmed a man has been taken to hospital with stab wounds to his stomach. There is no connection with the stabbing in Fishwick on Sunday morning.
