Tributes have been paid to a medical student found dead in student halls of residence.

Noriko Seida was studying for a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Central Lancashire.

The Japanese student was found around 8pm on Saturday in the IQ Kopa halls in Moor Lane.

Preston Police said an investigation had been concluded and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. A file was being prepared for the coroner.

Professor Cathy Jackson, head of school of medicine said: “Although she was a relatively new student, Noriko had settled well into the course and was very committed to her studies.

“Such was the feeling among her classmates that on hearing of her death, their first response was to come together for a candlelit vigil to offer prayers for her and her family and to mourn her loss. The thoughts and prayers of the whole School of Medicine go to her family and friends at this very difficult time.”

Luke Chang Yen Zhi, MBBS Student President within the School of Medicine, added: “Noriko was much loved and was a very diligent and responsible student. Being very punctual and hardworking she was always excited about her work and passionate about her friends. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.”

A university spokesman said: “All students and staff from the School of Medicine have been informed about the incident and the University is offering counselling and welfare support to all those affected.”
