Alesha Dixon has been confirmed as switching on Preston’s Christmas Lights.
Fishergate will be packed with thousands to watch the festive season be officially started as Dixon flicks the switch.
It’s the first time the lights switch on has taken place on the main shopping street, moving from the usual spot on the Flag Market.
A full line-up for the Christmas Lights Switch On will be announced in the coming weeks, with the Britain’s Got Talent judge Dixon headlining the event.
Preston Business Improvement District’s , who organise the event, manager Mark Whittle said: “The Christmas season is a happy time and we know families love our switch-on event which regularly attracts many thousands of people to our great city centre – I would like to thank Fishergate and St George’s shopping centres for supporting the switch-on
“The Lancashire Market Christmas Festival will make our city centres a ‘must visit’ destination. The markets are beautifully themed and will be a real spectacle, improving our long-term festive offer.
“To coincide with the launch of the festive period, we have once again commissioned a regional TV advert to run on ITV Granada during peak programmes.
“It’s vital that as a city we constantly remind a regional audience of our uniqueness and our attractive offer as a destination, there’s no better way to do this than by promoting it to more than 4.5million people. Our Christmas activity, is in the main, funded by the businesses located in the city centre, we have a duty to work together to ensure that it’s an enjoyable, positive and prosperous time for all.”
The lights switch on event is set to take place from 5.30pm on Saturday 14 November.
More than £60,000 has been spent on the Preston Christmas lights and events by Preston BID in the last 18 months.
