The monthly farmers’ market at St Michael’s church Ashton on Ribble celebrates its 10th anniversary this month.
On 15th October 2005, a perfect golden October day, people turned up in their hundreds to buy local produce and to chat with friends. The market provided an event for the whole of our local community and an opportunity for local fair trade. The produce on sale had not travelled far and the farmers and producers were paid a fair price for their goods.
Ten years on this remains the ethos and aim of the Ashton markets – to support local producers and provide a community event. As well as having a wide range of food stalls each month, the market also provides a collecting point for the Preston Food Bank and hosts a surgery of local councillors.
The anniversary market is on Saturday 17 October in St Michael’s church hall, Tulketh Road, Ashton on Ribble. 9.00am until 1.00pm
