The sum will be between £50-60 for each of the 300,000 households affected by the cryptosporidium outbreak.

These terms have been set after discussions with the Consumer Council for Water.

Cheques should begin to arrive at the affected households starting tomorrow.

The bill is set to cost United Utilities around £15 million as we previously reported and the company are stressing that customers will not foot the bill for the outlay with increased prices.

All cheques are expected to be issued by early October and have been calculated to recognise additional electricity use.

Full compensation details are available here.
